The two were competing for the vacant 265lb title, with Jones making his long-awaited comeback to the sport in the main event of UFC 285.

Frenchman Gane was tipped by many to give Jones a rude welcome back to the cage and the heavyweight division, but that is not how the fight went.

Jones made incredibly light work of the Muay Thai specialist, submitting him in two minutes to become a two-division champion.

Asked about his guillotine choke hold on Gane, he told Sports Illustrated: “I locked it up twice.

“The first time, I could hear his spine popping.

“I gave him a nice chiropractic adjustment.

“The second time, he didn’t want that same ratchet on his neck, and I put my arm on his neck and choked him out.

“I didn’t expect it to go that quickly, but that’s what we were looking for, the win and domination.”

Jones has since stormed to the top of the UFC pound-for-pound rankings after his victory.

The 35-year-old has jumped nine places and overtakes the likes of Kamaru Usman, Israel Adesanya and Brit Leon Edwards.

Jones has spent much of his career at or near the top of the pound-for-pound rankings list, and he could look to re-establish his dominance in the sport by taking on Stipe Miocic next.
