Tottenham ‘could offer Cristian Romero in shock swap transfer deal to land former Leeds winger’

TOTTENHAM could reportedly offer Cristian Romero in a shock swap deal to sign former Leeds star Raphinha.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have got off to a flying start this season, winning eight of their first 12 matches to sit fourth in the Premier League table.

However, the Aussie boss is eager to continue pushing forward after Spurs lost their last two matches against Chelsea and Wolves.

And Postecoglou hopes to land a new attacker in the upcoming winter transfer window.

There are several options on the table for big Ange, who has failed to get a tune out of £60million man Richarlison.

And Sport claims one of those is his Brazil teammate Raphinha, once of Leeds United.

The winger is in his second season at Barcelona after completing a £50m switch in 2022.

Raphinha, 26, has scored 12 goals in 61 games since he rejected a move to Todd Boehly’s Chelsea.

But Barca continue to be hit by financial problems.

And they are ready to cash in on Raphinha to the tune of £60m.

Spurs and Barcelona could yet find an agreement for Raphinha involving Gio Lo CelsoAlamy

Spurs do not have that kind of money lying around though.

It means they are ready to offer players instead.

And it’s reckoned Romero would be a reluctant option.

The Argentina centre-back, 25, has become an important player during his two-and-a-half years in north London, clocking up 75 appearances in the process.

Barcelona are thought to be fans after failing to nab him earlier in his career.

But Spurs would much prefer to keep Romero, and could instead offer up a different player instead.

Step forward Gio Lo Celso, who has made just 12 league appearances for Tottenham in the last three campaigns.

Xavi Hernandez is thought to be a huge fan of the ex-Villarreal loanee.

And with playmaker Gavi out injured for the rest of the season, Barcelona could settle on a deal for Lo Celso instead of Romero.
