Viewers were introduced to Kerry, who was left seriously injured after a traffic accident in 2006.

While he was at his lowest point Kerry regularly stopped to pet his neighbour’s dog Max.

And when his neighbour announced he was moving away, Kerry decided to adopt Max.

The dog helped Kerry to recover and he eventually started a charity called ‘Max Out’.

It’d designed to get people outside in a bid to improve their mental health.

Sadly Max died of old age last year and a small statue was created in his honour at the Lake District.

While Kerry was under the impression cameras were filming a documentary about dog walking, actor Jason Watkins surprised him.

He then pulled out two dog collars which said: “One Big Thank You”.

It then dawned on Kerry what was actually happening and he told Jason: “This is The One Show…”

“It is The One Show,” said Jason. “So we’re just saying one big thank you to you for all your incredible work that you have done.”

Kerry became tearful by his words and stood back before saying: “You’ve got me now, you really have.”

Jason then led a group of other people who wanted to say thank you to Kerry in a heart-warming moment.

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
