Laura Whitmore tackles shock sex subjects in gritty ITV documentary

LAURA Whitmore sure isn’t shying away from thorny topics as she makes her new batch of documentaries looking at women’s issues.
I can reveal that as part of going back to her journalistic roots, the former Love Island host will look at the subject of rough sex.
Laura Whitmore is returning to her journalistic roots with an ITV documentary on rough sexGetty
It is an important theme that could not be more relevant in an age when increasingly violent pornography has warped young people’s minds.
A TV insider said: “Rough sex is a subject that taps into the grey areas that come with certain behaviours and how we navigate them.
“We’re a society which is increasingly exposed to violence via the internet and that can lead to problems when that manifests itself in real life.
“As in so many similar situations, that often means women bear the brunt of those problems, which is what Laura will be looking at in the doc.”
She is producing three stand-alone shows for new streaming and catch-up platform ITVX under the same umbrella.
I exclusively revealed in November that one of the topics would be women-hating incels, a movement made up of men who believe women are to blame for their lack of sexual intimacy.
So it is fair to say that Laura, who quit Love Island last August, is not hesitating to grasp some nettles in her bid to show she is much more than a dating show presenter.
I’m intrigued to find out what the rest of the subjects are going to be.
HAVE I Got News For You is returning for a whopping 65th series next month.
Team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton will feature alongside guest hosts and panellists, who have yet to be revealed.
The BBC One show’s series opener is on Friday, April 14 at 9pm.
LUTHER A KILLER FOR ANDY
ANDY Serkis has played some dark characters during his career, including Moors Murderer Ian Brady.
But he says his latest role in the new Luther movie is the most “horrible” yet.
When he first read the script he wanted to “chuck it in the bin and have a shower”.
The serial killer character David Robey manipulates technology as part of his crimes, which alerts DCI Luther, played by Idris Elba.
Andy said on the Table Manners podcast: “You’ll want to throw away your devices.
“It’s a very dark character. He exposes people. The character is a reflection of society.”
The movie Luther: The Fallen Sun is out now on Netflix.
JANET: MY SOPHIE’S NO NEPO
FORMER Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis has batted away claims her daughter Sophie Ellis-Bextor is a “nepo baby”.
She says that as the singer has established a career in a different industry, she cannot be accused of getting help from her famous mum.
And she reckons Sophie has eclipsed her level of fame.
Janet said on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch: “Certainly in Sophie’s case it didn’t apply because what she’s doing is so different.
“There was probably a bit initially where, you know, she was my daughter. But oh my goodness, the tables have turned.”
