The former professional footballer revealed he shed 7 stone following stomach surgery, and he beamed as he spoke about overcoming his health woes which included almost dying on the operating table.

He told GMB hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley today: “I found out I had to a bad heart, I had a pacemaker, I was lazy.

“I always had the excuse to eat and drink, it snowballed from there.

“Then I bumped into Arg, a beautiful man, and he told me he story and that was it.”

Arg said: “My story is almost identical to Neil’s.

“I battled weight my whole life and lockdown I knew I had to do something.

“So 70 per cent of my stomach has been removed and the gastric surgery really helps with portion control.

“It’s not a miracle, it doesn’t mean you’re going to lose weight overnight, if I wanted to I could still have small portions of bad food which would mean I wouldn’t lose weight.

“I had to change my lifestyle.”
