The show has been a stalwart of the BBC Christmas TV schedule for over a decade.
But in a new landmark announcement, the corporation has confirmed the show is set to air four new episodes.
This will be the first series of the show since 2013, with filming for the show set to start in Spring.
The new set of instalments of Mrs Brown’s Boys will air on BBC One and Iplayer later on in 2023.
Brendan O’Carroll, who created the sitcom and who will return in his long-running role of Agnes Brown, revealed that his plans for the show have been postponed multiple times.
He revealed: “This mini-series was actually planned for 2021.
“Having been thwarted twice, firstly by Covid-19 and then by a post Covid shortage of studios, it’s fantastic to, at last, have the chance to make it happen.”
The comic actor added: “Fasten your seatbelts and hold onto your hats!”
This confirms reports after The Sun previously revealed that there will be a new four-part series of Mrs Brown’s Boys, on top of the usual Christmas specials.
He told TV mag: “We were hoping to do a mini-series last year, just four episodes to celebrate 100 years of the BBC.
“But Covid got in the way. Not Covid itself, but as soon as the lockdowns were lifted, everybody was rushing for venues.
“The BBC were adamant that they wanted to get four episodes, so we thought: ‘Let’s book studios now for 2023 and we can do the four then.’”
“So we’re hoping to do the four-part mini-series of Mrs Brown and then two more Christmas specials at the end of the year as well.”
