Mr Hui insists the firm’s casino encouraged him to gamble despite him being too drunk, continuing to serve him Moutai — a Chinese liquor known as “firewater”.
He claims staff “deliberately failed to intervene” when he was intoxicated and let him carry on playing so he would gamble and lose large sums on the night in February 2016.
His lawyers claim Aspinall’s members-only club in London’s Mayfair breached its obligation for social responsibility under its gambling licence.
Aspinall’s, however, is demanding he pays up, insisting Mr Hui was sober enough to make clear decisions and even drove himself home.
Alexander Robson, for the casino — founded in the 1960s by playboy and conservationist John Aspinall — called the defence’s theory “implausible”.
The case continues at the High Court.
