Coronation Street star signs contract to stay on the cobbles for another year after devastating acid attack storyline

CORONATION Street actress Sair Khan has signed a new contract to keep her on the cobbles for another year.

The actress, known to millions for playing Alya Nazir in Corrie, has been a favourite on the cobbles for nine years.

Sair’s character has been at the centre of some of the soap’s most hard-hitting storylines.

Earlier this year Alya was stabbed by radicalised teenager Blake, and she has been supporting Ryan through a harrowing acid attack.

A source told The Sun: “Sair has signed a new contract that starts in June and keeps her on the soap for another year.

“She’s a huge fan favourite and all of the cast and crew love her – everyone who works there is so pleased she’s sticking around.”

However, not only is Sair impressing with her acting skills.

She has made a move to behind the lens of the camera on the ITV soap opera too.

She has proved she is just as worthy off-screen, and was proved it by directing an episode back in February.

It comes as The Sun revealed Tina O’Brien has also nabbed a new contract to keep her on the street after 24 years.

A source told The Sun: “Tina signed on for another year’s contract and couldn’t be happier.

“She sees Coronation Street as her home and loves playing Sarah.

“Everyone’s really pleased and fans will be too.”

It comes after Corrie retained three more of its major stars by offering bumper deals to stay for another year on the ITV soap.
