Coronation Street fans spot major blunder as soap legend bids sad farewell on ITV show

CORONATION Street viewers were left baffled when they noticed a huge gaffe during this year’s festive episodes.

Fans of the ITV soap opera noticed that something was amiss with one of the props outside the Roves Return pub.

Tuesday’s visit to the cobbles saw Carla Connor (Alison King) wave goodbye to her beloved husband Peter Barlow (Chris ).

After battling with his demons over his part in Stephen Reid’s death, Peter was given the opportunity to leave the cobbles to start afresh by Carla.

The pair agreed to separate, ending their long and toxic relationship, and Peter took the first tram he could catch up with in order to join his friend Mickey on his yacht.

However, amidst the emotional scenes, fans were left taken aback by a glaring blunder.

The soap’s prop team decorated the outside of the pub in multicoloured Christmas lights despite the pub being closed with no landlord.

Reacting to the blunder at home, one fan wrote on X – formerly Twitter: “The Rovers has been closed for over 3 months, so who put these lights up and who’s paying for the electric, as The Rovers power is cut off.”

Another added: “The whole storyline made no sense. The company bought it, closed it immediately to do renovations, then did nothing. Then decided to sell it.”

A third penned: “I wonder if the estate agents put the lights up to draw attention to it…? Maybe it’s one of those things, we will never discovered the answer to…. @itvcorrie?”

As Peter left the cobbles to go on his around-the-world sailing adventure, his son Simon (Alex Bain) was left fuming and upset as his dad didn’t say goodbye.

Fans now think this will cause Simon to spiral into alcoholism just like his dad did.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Corrie star is also quitting the ITV soap after playing Simon for 15 years.

He landed the role when he was just a seven-year-old and shocked fans in 2018 when he revealed he was becoming a teenage dad in real life.

Now 22, Alex, will bow out with an explosive storyline this summer.

A source said: “Alex is sad to be leaving Coronation Street because it really is like a family — but he realises that the time is right to move on.

“He’s very excited about the future and other opportunities.”

Alex’s then-girlfriend Levi Selby gave birth shortly after her 16th birthday to daughter Lydia-Rose. Alex — 16 when Levi fell pregnant — was 17 and had only just sat his GCSE exams.

He has been involved in a string of controversial Corrie storylines and won the British Soap Award for Best Young Actor in 2011.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 and ITVX from 8pm.
