However, fans hoping to wake up to Sally bringing them the latest news were left in shock as she had mysteriously vanished from today’s show without warning.
Instead, early-risers say Jon hosting the show alongside another face of BBC News.
Tina made a name for herself as a newsreader across the BBC’s flagship radio stations before taking up the role as a stand-in host on the morning TV show, where she has provided cover since 2016.
At present, it is unknown why Sally failed to appear as usual on the show.
Tina has also stepped in where necessary before on the BBC’s 6pm and 10pm bulletins as well as still continuing to work in radio alongside Zoe Ball on the Radio 2 Breakfast show.
Sally’s absence from the show comes just one day after she was praised by fans for her grilling of MP Michelle Donelan about the Government’s plans to ban Channel migrants from future re-entry under new legislation.
She spoke to the MP via video link, and despite some time delays during her questioning, many felt she gave the politician a “grilling”.

Another added: “Great interview @BBCBreakfast and
@sallynugent Government needs to provide safe practical method for asylum seekers to use when fleeing death or persecution in their home country.”
A third tweeted: “@sallynugent when did you turn into being a BBC Rottweiler! that interview was really incredibly uncomfortable to watch.”
