America tourist shares why British churches have left them baffled

AMERICAN tourists on holiday in the UK have been left feeling baffled by churches found in towns and villages across the UK.

Despite speaking the same language, and having broadly similar cultures, when our friends from across the pond visit they can sometimes feel baffled by the Great British outdoors.

Laura and Nathan Curton are no strangers to witnessing surprised Americans take in British quirks.

The husband and wife duo have personally been hosting American holidaymakers in their 18th Century thatched English cottage for the last three years.

As part of their English Cottage Vacation experience, the couple offers bespoke, all-inclusive, and luxurious holidays and have welcomed numerous American tourists.

Along the way, they’ve worked out what leaves Americans stunned when they visit and it turns out that British churches just leave them baffled.

When Nathan and Laura welcome their guests, they often take them on a walk through their local village.

Nathan told the Sun Online Travel: “Our guests comment on how nice our village is, but they’re surprised by the big and beautiful church.”

But the bewilderment doesn’t end there, according to the husband and wife team – their US guests are happily surprised to find that they can go inside the church.

Laura added: “Usually it’s open when we do our walk around the village, so our guests can go inside.”

A handful of the couple’s customers will head to the local church to pray during their visit to.

Nathan added: “They’re surprised by how welcomed they feel during the congregations too.”

According to Laura and Nathan, their guests are often surprised by how nice and kind Brits are at tourist attractions.

Nathan previously told the Sun Online Travel team: “Everyone saying good morning at the tourist attractions is something Americans find surprising.”

Laura and Nathan caveated the positive mood because they’re often taking their guests to popular tourist attractions such as Stonehenge, Bath and the Tank Museum.

Laura and Nathan also revealed the eight things Americans don’t understand when they visit UK including phrases like “high-street” and “quid”.

And an American tourist recently went viral when he praised London after a recent visit.

The US tourist was impressed with the city’s public transport links, free museums and supermarket meal deals.
